The Riu Palace - The Riu Palace is located on the French side of the island. The rooms overlook the property's lush gardens. The infinity pool allures, as does the hue of blue sapphire ocean. I have long been a fan of Riu Palace Resorts, and most have the same design, but here the building units remain true to the setup of the Radisson, the resort previously located on these grounds. It's all very boutique-like with just under 250 rooms, complimentary Wi-Fi included. All rooms are suites or junior suites. While none directly face the ocean, it's just a short stroll away.

La Semana - On the French side of St Martin is La Semana, the only Orient Express resort in the Caribbean. This five-star property hosts celebrities and dignitaries, but don't ask them to name names as staying here is all about discretion. The property will be closed this fall to undergo renovations, but the incredible beach views need no improvement. Dine among tantalizing views at the beachfront restaurant where fresh lobster and top-shelf drinks are provided There's no scrimping with the booze here, as it's not all inclusive, so the cocktail you order is tailor-made, top-of-the-line all the way. Euros is the form of currency on the French side of St Martin, but the American dollar is accepted. From here, you can charter a boat to St Bart's for the day - $2,000.
